CLTS PROJECT SUPERVISION OF EGAN ARIN COMMUNITY, IDO L.G.A, IBADAN, OYO STATE
Egan Arin is a community located in Ido L.G.A, along Apata-Abeokuta Expressway, Ibadan. The community is one that is well wrapped up in a forest and streams.
The small community is made up of families whose main occupation is hunting and farming. The children attend a school that is three villages from where they live and are sometimes left in the community alone whilst their parents and wards go in search of their daily bread.
Egan Arin is dominated with Muslims and they singlehandedly built a mosque that accommodates the villagers and neighbouring communities during the Friday Jumat Prayers.
At the time of my impromptu visit, I only met the spokesperson for the community leaders, some children and the labourer who was constructing the concrete slabs for the construction of their first community toilet to eradicate open defecation; considering the economic implication of constructing individual toilets, the community members agreed to constructing a common toilet for use by all the community residents and visitors.
The spokesperson for the community leaders also made obligations to build individual toilets when the are more economically buoyant especially after their harvesting season.
