CLTS FACILITATION SUPERVISION IN IBERE COMMUNITY, OGO OLUWA L.G.A, OYO STATE

After a long journey to Ibere community in Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area, My team and I were given a cold welcome by the community leader because he felt that the government/my team were supposed to handle the construction of toilets.

In Community-led Total Sanitation, just like any other sanitation campaign or any project for that matter, we are bound to encounter a few setbacks during the implementation stage.

Ibere community had been triggered to the extent of already choosing the site for the toilets' construction. The reason why my CLTS Team is not obliged to build toilets is for the following reasons:

  1. The maintenance and sustenance of the community's Open Defecation Free Status is tied to the fact that the community members have a sense of belonging and ownership.
  2. The community members have the advantage of choosing local materials that suit their lifestyle so as to ensure the rapid, affordable and sustained ODF Status.
CLTS is aimed at enlightening the community to cause a behavioural change from the practise of Open Defecation to an Open Defecation Free Status.

The expectation of Nigerians as concerned wanting the government to do everything for us, is what has brought this great nation to where is lays today.
For now, there has been no physical structure put in place for Ibere Community.

I hope to keep communicating with the Community Leader as his gesture to give out the land and even allow us into the community to is a plus on their part.

Nothing is Impossible and I hope to write about a progress in Ibere Community, soon.
