OluwaMiranda Talks on the 2015 General Elections in Nigeria.

For the past few months, I have had questions about who I am going to vote into power in the upcoming 2015 general elections. I have felt it is a personal decision to make. However, in the midst of all the twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social networks’ posts, I have felt the need to really pour out my mind in and through this post. This will be done in an interactive session:

Who Are You?

I am Olulegan Yetunde Oluwatoyin, popularly known as “OluwaMiranda” because of the of cohesion of Miranda and Oluwatoyin, my other names. I’m in my 20’s therefore I have a right to vote and own a blog (laughs).  I am the last born of 5 and I have the best dad in the world. I studied Industrial Chemistry for my first degree and went on to study Environmental Chemistry, all at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.

What do you think Nigeria Needs?

Nigeria is a beautiful country, filled with an amazing mix of culture, gender and belief system. Nigeria is what I refer to as a goldmine, because of the vast population, almost anything sells here. There are various misconceptions on what or who Nigeria needs. I believe every Nigerian needs a true, complete and absolute mindset overhaul. The real need of this country is not in the quality of their leader but in the quality of the majority. One person does not have the solution Nigeria needs. I believe what we need is in the collective effort of every man, woman and child.

However, we need urgently to give the children something to hope for. We owe every Nigerian youth the express access to education and jobs. We need a system that takes care of our old moms and dads. We have physically challenged people in the society; we need someone or a group of people who cares enough to adjust the budget to favour them. We need good roads, well-structured markets, good schools, constant power supply, affordable food items, affordable health care system, tight security systems and the list goes on.

What’s your view on #CHANGE?

I know everyone thinks the Change Motion is only applicably associated to one political party in Nigeria. I beg to differ. What is CHANGE? From the top of my head, I can think of different definitions of change:
1. Make different; cause a transformation
2. Become different in essence; losing one's or its original nature
3. Exchange or replace with another, usually of the same kind or category
4. An event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another

I do not think these definitions are directly referring to any one Nigerian Political Party. I am in fact sure that they are not. Change is constant.

Some of the quotes I love about change are:
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain” –Maya Angelou
“A change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things.” -Barack Obama
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” –Nelson Mandela

All these 3 quotes have something in common; they do not talk about change in a passive sense but in an active sense. What I mean is this, when people see change as something one man can do, because of his/her past deeds or undoing, they miss the whole point. Change is something everybody has to take a responsibility for. Change is who we are meant to become. Change is not a political party. Change is progress. Change is Me, Change is You.

Change is neither APC or PDP: Change is YOUR CHOICE.

In conclusion, what do you have to say to ALL Nigerians who are looking forward to the General Elections?

I believe in a better Nigeria and the reality of this begins with ME.
This is why I have taken out time to compose this resolution. I implore others to read it and proffer their signatures or initials in the comment box below:

"I will take responsibilities for the change I want to see by looking deep within, looking around and looking above. I will not sell my vote because selling my vote is selling my right. I will cast my vote and I will do so wisely. I will not enforce my conviction on others by using insulting words or graphics. I will not start or enhance violence. I will report any unusual events to my local police station. I am part of change and the change starts now."-OluwaMiranda

Please note that it is not enough to make a resolution to vote, you also need to know how to. You can go through the chart to find out the simple steps you need to adhere to.
